Blue Lagoon

The sulfur lakes and hot springs around The Blue Lagoon. The deep blue and white colour of the water comes from the natural minerals and sulfur in the water. One of the most fun experience of any trip to Iceland is a dip in the natural hot springs of the Blue Lagoon. We wanted to go there every day. Even though its freezing outside the water, filled with natural minerals that are good for the skin, is hot and from time to time you can feel a new gush of hot water springing from the bottom of the lake. A not-to-be-missed experience!

TIP: On the day your flight leaves for back home, check out of your hotel in Reykjavík, and head to the Blue Lagoon before heading to the airport, which is only 20 minutes away, but remember to check the times! We were having so much fun that we forgot about our flight and with only 65 minutes left until our flight, left for the airport in the hurry… Only to get pulled over on the way there, where I got another souvenir from my trip to Iceland: a speeding ticket.

great photo ... tell me, is there any post processing to bring out the blue in the lake?

  • faisal on 25.07.2011 @ 10:13

@Andrew: I bumped up the saturation on the water just a tad since as you can see, the sky was pretty overcast and the photo didnt really do the blues in the water much justice. Id say the water colour is now closer to the actual colour than it was out of the camera.

For such a paradisesounding name, it doesn't invite for a swim.
Good capture, I like the landscape. Almost look like Nessie swimming in the backgrond

The far distant house just seems to add to the loneliness - that and the lack of beautiful Icelandic people floating around.

Great shot - and a great anecdote too!

Wow, that's amazing! A speeding ticket is unfortunate, but worthwhile for that experience.
