The Vidhidalur region in northeatern Iceland has the most amazing terrain, you’d think you were in another planet. The white snow on the pitch black lava mountains form a zeebra-like pattern all over the terrain and the distant hills give it an out-wordly look. The huge plateau / mountain on the left in the background is Mt. Herðubreið. The day’s 300+ mile drive thru the fjords from Berufjörður was the highlight the trip for me. The scene is just extraordinary and the lack of a single soul in sight just adds to the mystery.

This is amazing! Perfect combination of desolation and beauty.

Wow, is that a plateau in the background, or is the top just hiding in the clouds? Did you darken the foreground a bit to accent the cloud shadows? It looks fantastic!

A slightly alien landscape, that incorporates such a harsh grandeur. I love the way that the mountains just leap out of the flat plain. Really stunning!

Like some have already said, it's a real alien-like landscape. I like how far you can see in the distance! It seems like this kind of terrain stretches out indefinitely!
