Going to Venice is like taking a trip back in time. If you take away the tourists and the hordes of people that flock to this city every day, its quite fascinating to see the city on the water that has largely remained unchanged for centuries. The architecture is the gothic/Medieval that is best seen in the cold / dark days of winter, which is why I decided to visit Venice in November. I kept wondering how the locals live in the city as this way of life without cars, public transportation and the things we take for granted are not present in Venice. Also: the city seemed, to me at least, to be more french than Italian. I dont know why I got this feeling whilst I was there - but there's something very french about Venice.
This is my version of the cliche Down-the-Grand-Canal Venice shot. This is the main highway of Venice that goes through the entire city. In the foreground you see Santa Maria de Salute, the largest cathedral in Venice.
